DOWSIL 92-023
Harmonization Code : 3208.20.90 | Paints and varnishes that are dispersed or dissolved in a non aqueous medium

Main features
- Adhesion-Promoting Surface Treatment
- Improved Inhibition Resistance in Addition-Cure Silicone Systems
- 1 to 2-Hour Cure Window
Product Description
DOWSIL™ 92-023 Primer is a clear, heptane-dispersed adhesion primer that enhances bonding of room-temperature-vulcanizing and heat-cure silicones to a range of prepared surfaces. It is suitable for use on many metals, ceramics, glass, wood, masonry, and structural plastics and can also improve the inhibition resistance of addition-cure silicone systems. The ready-to-use liquid is applied as a very light, even coat by wiping, dipping, or spraying. After application, the primer reacts with atmospheric moisture and is generally cured at room temperature for 1–2 hours before the silicone elastomer is applied.
Key features
- Silicone adhesion promotion: Enhances bonding of RTV and heat-cure silicones to properly prepared substrates.
- Addition-cure compatibility: Improves inhibition resistance when used with addition-cure silicone systems.
- Broad substrate scope: Applicable to many metals, ceramics, glass, wood, masonry, and structural plastics.
- Multiple application methods: May be applied in a light, even coat by wiping, dipping, or spraying.
- Room-temperature cure: Generally cures for 1–2 hours at 20–90% relative humidity before silicone application.
Applications / Suitable for
- Promoting RTV and heat-cure silicone adhesion to prepared metal surfaces
- Priming glass and ceramic surfaces before silicone bonding or sealing
- Treating compatible wood, masonry, and structural-plastic surfaces before silicone application
- Processes requiring improved inhibition resistance with addition-cure silicones

Surface preparation, application, and cure
Clean and degrease the bonding surface and allow all cleaning solvents to evaporate. Apply DOWSIL™ 92-023 Primer in a very light, uniform coating by wiping, dipping, or spraying. Excess primer should be removed because over-application may produce a white, chalky surface. Allow the primer to cure fully before applying the silicone material.
Application, dilution, and storage guidance
When wiping, replenish the cloth with fresh material every 3–5 minutes. For dip or spray application, dilution by a factor of 2–4 with additional suitable solvent may help avoid excessive buildup. Store below 32°C with containers tightly closed and moisture exposure minimized. Do not use material that develops a milky appearance or substantial white precipitate, which can indicate moisture contamination.
Product applications
DOWSIL™ 92-023 Primer may be used to prepare compatible bonding surfaces before the application of RTV or heat-cured silicone materials. Customers should verify adhesion and process conditions on the intended substrate and assembly.
