Main features

  • Mineral-Oil Solid-Lubricant Assembly Paste
  • 0.08 Press-Fit Friction Coefficient
  • 2,800 N Four-Ball Weld Load

Product Description

MOLYKOTE® G-N Plus Paste is a black mineral-oil solid-lubricant paste for assembly, press fitting, running-in, and low-motion lubrication of metal components. The supplier reports an ISO 2137 unworked penetration of 280–310 mm/10, a 2,800 N four-ball weld load, an Almen-Wieland OK load above 20,000 N, and a press-fit coefficient of friction of 0.08 with no chatter. Solid-lubricant temperature guidance extends from -25°C to 450°C and up to 630°C with reduced air access; these limits do not imply unchanged carrier or paste properties throughout the range. Apply a thin layer to clean contact surfaces, rub it into the metal to improve adhesion, and do not mix it with greases or oils.

Key features

Additional Information

High-load assembly and running-in paste

MOLYKOTE® G-N Plus Paste

A black mineral-oil paste containing solid lubricants and a thickener for assembly, press fitting, running-in, and low-motion lubrication of metallic components. Its product-specific load and friction data support evaluation where high contact pressure, controlled assembly friction, stick-slip avoidance, fretting protection, and later dismantling are important.

Application process

Apply a controlled film to clean metal surfaces

Prepare the contact area before applying the paste. The supplier recommends a thin, worked-in film rather than the larger quantities associated with conventional grease lubrication.

Clean: Remove contamination from the sliding surfaces or contact areas before application.
Apply: Use a brush, cloth, synthetic sponge, or chamois to distribute a thin layer across the intended metal contact.
Work into the surface: Vigorous rubbing into the metal improves adhesion of the paste film.
Control quantity and mixing: Do not apply in excess as with grease lubrication, and do not mix with greases or oils.
Technician rubbing a thin black solid-lubricant paste into a cleaned metal press-fit, threaded, or sliding contact surface.

Use a thin, uniform film and work the paste into the cleaned metal surface rather than applying it as a bulk grease fill.

Storage and Handling

Store between 0°C and 40°C in the original unopened container. Usable life is 60 months from the date of production. Review the current safety data and container label before handling; use local exhaust ventilation and appropriate protective gloves and eye/face protection. The current SDS states that heating above 150°C in air can form formaldehyde vapors, so applicable ventilation and exposure controls are required.

Applications

Assembly, running-in, and low-motion applications

The documented application scope covers metallic contacts where assembly friction, high contact pressure, intermittent movement, running-in behavior, fretting risk, or later dismantling are important. Final suitability depends on the material pair, geometry, surface condition, load, temperature, atmosphere, and applied film quantity.

Metal press-fit and bolted assembly with a thin black paste applied to mating surfaces, threads, bearing seats, and flange contacts.
Press-fit and bolted assemblies
For press-fit production and fitting of roller bearings, washers, wheels, flanges, bolts, and related machine elements. Product-specific press-fit and screw-test coefficients provide controlled test data for assembly evaluation.
Gearbox internals showing threaded spindles, splined shafts, toothed gears, worm gears, and transmission components prepared for running-in.
Machine and gearbox running-in
Used as a running-in lubricant for new machines and gearboxes, including threaded spindles, splined shafts, toothed gears, worm gears, transmission gears, and screws.
Valve, pump, machine-tool guide, and metalworking setup representing intermittent-motion lubrication and drilling, sawing, or thread cutting.
Low-motion components and metalworking
Documented uses include valves, pumps, machine-tool guides, components moved only rarely or slightly, and drilling, sawing, or thread-cutting operations.
