Product Description

LOCTITE® EA E-20HP is a toughened, two-component industrial epoxy adhesive formulated for room-temperature bonding with a practical 20-minute working life at 23°C. The medium-viscosity resin and hardener mix at 2:1 by volume or 100:55 by weight and cure to an off-white bondline. The cured adhesive combines peel resistance, substrate-specific shear strength, chemical and solvent resistance, and electrical insulation. It is intended for general industrial bonding where moderate assembly time is needed across prepared metals, plastics, wood, glass, epoxyglass, dry concrete, and architectural materials. Bond performance depends on substrate condition, surface preparation, bondline, cure, and service environment.

Preparation, dispensing and cure

Processing LOCTITE® EA E-20HP

Remove paint, oxide films, oils, dust, mold-release agents, and other contaminants from the bonding surfaces. Apply the mixed adhesive evenly to the surfaces, assemble promptly, and keep parts from moving while the bond develops. Higher temperatures accelerate cure, while larger mixed quantities and higher temperatures reduce working life.

Mix ratio: 2:1 resin to hardener by volume, or 100:55 by weight.
Cartridge start-up: Confirm that both components extrude, attach a new static mixing nozzle, and discard approximately 25 to 50 mm of mixed material before bonding.
Application window: Typical working life is 20 minutes at 23°C; apply and assemble promptly.
Cure development: Typical tack-free time is 40 minutes. Representative cured-property data are based on 5 days at 23°C unless otherwise stated.
Storage and handling

Store unopened containers in a dry location at an optimal temperature of 8°C to 21°C. Storage below 8°C or above 28°C can adversely affect product properties. Keep containers closed, protect them from contamination, and do not return material removed during use to the original container. Use appropriate gloves, eye protection, and ventilation for the task.

Cured 5 days at 23°C on steel with no induced gap; aged at the listed temperature and tested at 23°C by ISO 4587 lap shear.
Temperature and dry-concrete performance
  • In hot-strength testing on acid-etched and abraded aluminum, retained lap-shear strength decreased as test temperature increased. Test specimens were cured 12 hours at 65°C plus 4 hours at 23°C with a 0.1 to 0.2 mm bondline.
  • In a modified ASTM C881/C882-99 test on dry concrete, the concrete fractured before the adhesive failed. The adhesive is not recommended for use on wet surfaces.
Typical results are configuration-specific; verify performance with the intended substrates, preparation, bondline, cure, and service environment.
