Product Description

DOWSIL™ 736 Heat Resistant Sealant is a one-part, nonslumping silicone paste for high-temperature bonding, sealing, gasketing, potting, encapsulating and protective-coating applications. Atmospheric moisture cures the material at room temperature to a flexible rubbery solid. It supports continuous operation from -65 to 260°C and intermittent exposure to 315°C. The red, ready-to-use sealant can be applied on sidewalls and overhead surfaces and is used around appliance heating elements, industrial ovens, moving oven belts, aerospace gaskets and bag filters on smoke stacks.

A one-part, nonslumping silicone paste for bonding, sealing, gasketing, potting, encapsulating and protective-coating applications exposed to high temperatures. The material cures at room temperature through atmospheric moisture to form a flexible rubbery solid and supports continuous operation to 260°C with intermittent exposure to 315°C.

Processing

Surface preparation, application and cure

DOWSIL™ 736 is supplied ready to use and flows from its container under pressure. Thoroughly clean and degrease applicable metal and plastic surfaces before application. Roughen rubber surfaces with sandpaper and wipe them with a suitable solvent. Apply the paste in a uniform thickness and complete tooling before skin formation begins.

Apply the sealant to properly prepared surfaces in a uniform thickness and complete tooling before skin formation.

Cure, priming and storage considerations

Atmospheric moisture is required for cure. Lower humidity, thicker sections and partial confinement extend cure time, while absolute confinement may prevent complete cure. For stronger and more uniform bonds, a compatible primer or adhesion promoter may be used on surfaces other than rubber and silicone rubber. Store the product in its original unopened container at or below 32°C.

Substrate and use limitations

The sealant is not recommended for continuous underwater immersion where adhesion or structural bonding is required, masonry, painted-over surfaces or totally confined areas. Adhesion is limited on PTFE-coated materials, polyethylene, polypropylene and methyl methacrylate. Acetic acid released during cure may corrode sensitive metals, and some plastics may develop stress cracking; evaluate the complete substrate and cure configuration before use.
