Product Description

DOWSIL™ 3-6876 Adhesive is a one-part, flowable, addition-cure silicone adhesive for bonding, sealing, and gasketing applications in electronic and automotive assemblies. The black adhesive requires no mixing and can be applied by automated or manual needle dispensing. Its 41,275 mPa·s typical viscosity allows the material to flow, fill, and self-level after dispensing. Cure speed is controlled by temperature, with typical schedules ranging from 300 minutes at 100°C to 30 minutes at 150°C. After cure, the material provides 5.5 MPa tensile strength, 255% elongation, Shore A 53 hardness, and 4.4 MPa unprimed lap-shear adhesion to aluminum. Applications include sealing housings and connectors, attaching baseplates, gasketing, engine and transmission controllers, ABS assemblies, and lighting components.

Application and processing

Processing and cure

Thoroughly mix the material before use when filler settling has occurred. Prepare clean, degreased substrates, dispense the adhesive, assemble the parts, and apply a supported heat-cure schedule. Cure rate increases with temperature.

Storage and handling

Store the material in its original, tightly closed container. The reported shelf life is 12 months at 5°C. Cold storage is recommended to extend usable life, and the product label “Use Before” date should be observed. Protect the material from moisture and incompatible cure-inhibiting substances.
