Main features

  • Aerospace Flame/Smoke/Toxicity Performance
  • Extended Working-Time Room-Temperature Cure
  • Structural Aircraft-Interior Bonding

Product Description

ARALDITE® 1570 FST A/B is a halogen-free, two-component epoxy paste adhesive for aerospace interior assemblies where flame, smoke and toxicity performance is required. The thixotropic system cures at room temperature and was developed for bonding PE foam to phenolic glass-reinforced plastic in aircraft cargo areas. It mixes at 1:1 by volume or 100:87.8 by weight, provides an approximately 140-minute pot life for a 100 g mass at 25°C, and reaches its recommended cure after 48 hours at 23°C. The mixed adhesive is dark grey and is available in 200 mL cartridges and bulk packaging. Huntsman lists the product for aircraft interiors, cargo liners and foam bonding, with FAR 25.853 and Airbus AIMS 10-04-006 references.

Key features

  • Flame, smoke and toxicity performance: Reported to meet FAR 25.853 (a), FAR 25.853 (a-1) and AITM 3.0005, with Airbus AIMS 10-04-006 referenced for the exact product.
  • Long working window with room-temperature cure: Approximately 140-minute pot life for a 100 g mass at 25°C and a recommended cure cycle of 48 hours at 23°C.
  • Thixotropic two-part paste: Dark-grey mixed adhesive with 1:1 volume mixing, controlled application and a recommended 0.05 to 0.10 mm bondline.

Applications / Suitable for

  • PE foam to phenolic GRP bonding in aircraft cargo areas
  • Aircraft interior and cargo liner assemblies requiring flame-retardant adhesive performance
  • Evaluation with foam, GRP, plastics and metal substrates in controlled aerospace bonding applications

Processing

Surface preparation, mixing and cure

Prepare clean, dry joint surfaces and control the mixing, bondline and assembly sequence. The mixed paste may be applied manually or with automated dispensing equipment.

Surface preparation: Degrease the bonding surfaces to remove oil, grease and dirt. For the strongest and most durable joints, mechanically abrade or chemically etch the degreased surfaces, then degrease again.
Mixing: Combine Part A and Part B at 100:87.8 by weight or 1:1 by volume. Bulk and cartridge formats support manual or automated application.
Application and bondline: Apply the adhesive to pretreated, dry surfaces. A 0.05 to 0.10 mm adhesive layer is recommended for greatest lap shear strength under the referenced test guidance.
Assembly: Assemble and secure the joint components in a fixed position as soon as the adhesive has been applied. Joint design remains critical to bonded-joint durability.
Recommended cure: Cure for 48 hours at 23°C. Clean tools before adhesive residue cures.

Recommended workflow: prepare, mix, apply, assemble and cure under controlled conditions.

Storage and handling

Store Parts A and B in their original sealed containers at 2-8°C in a dry environment. Shelf life is 1 year under these conditions. Protect containers from moisture and direct heat, use appropriate ventilation and personal protective equipment, and consult the current regional Safety Data Sheets before use.
