3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive DP420NS Black is a black, toughened, non-sag, two-part epoxy structural adhesive designed for high-strength bonding applications. It provides excellent shear strength, excellent peel strength, high impact and fatigue resistance, and a 20-minute open/work time for positioning and adjustment. DP420NS Black bonds a variety of substrates including metals, ceramics, wood, glass, many composites and plastics, and can be used for joining, gluing, potting, panel bonding and structural bonding.

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ DP420NS Black is a black, toughened, non-sag, two-part epoxy structural adhesive for demanding bonding applications. It combines excellent shear and peel strength with impact and fatigue resistance, a 20-minute open time and a 2:1 mix ratio by volume. It is suitable for bonding metals, ceramics, wood, glass, many composites and plastics.

Key processing properties
DP420NS Black is supplied as a two-part epoxy adhesive with an amine accelerator and epoxy base. Its non-sag rheology supports controlled placement, while its open time allows positioning before the joint is closed and fixed.

Mixing, dispensing and bonding
DP420NS Black is compatible with 3M™ EPX™ Duo-Pak cartridge dispensing and may also be used with two-part mixing, proportioning and dispensing equipment for intermittent or production-line use. Complete mixing of Part A and Part B is required to obtain optimum properties.
Recommended visual: surface preparation, 2:1 metering, mixing, non-sag adhesive placement, joint closure and cure.
Storage and handling
Store DP420NS Black under normal conditions of 16–27°C and 40–60% relative humidity in the original packaging, out of direct sunlight. For best performance, use this product within 24 months from the date of manufacture. Review the product label and applicable SDS before handling.

DP420NS Black is documented with high overlap shear strength on prepared metals and composites, plus peel and impact data. Values are substrate-, preparation-, bondline-, cure- and test-specific and should not be treated as universal joint-strength ratings.

Overlap shear results used ASTM D1002 / ISO 4587. The documented standard specimen used 25 mm wide, 12.7 mm overlap samples with a 0.13–0.20 mm bondline unless otherwise stated.

The cured adhesive has documented hardness, thermal properties and environmental overlap-shear data. These values should be interpreted with their test method, substrate and exposure conditions.

Environmental results were measured on aluminum specimens with MEK / sandblast / MEK surface preparation at 23°C after seven days dwell. Application-specific testing is required for actual joint geometry, exposure and service conditions.
Structural bonding applications
DP420NS Black is intended for industrial and occupational structural bonding applications requiring high strength, impact resistance, fatigue resistance and non-sag placement.
Metalworking and heavy-duty mounting
Use for metalworking and mounting assemblies where prepared metal substrates require high-strength structural bonds.
Composite and carbon fiber bonding
Documented applications include carbon fiber epoxy bonding, with tested overlap shear data on epoxy and polyester fiber-reinforced plastic.
